Biography Assignment

The story of someone’s life? A tale of accomplishment? A tale of woe? Or is it a boring list of facts that nobody cares about? A good biography brings the person to life . . .makes us care about what she or he did with time and opportunity. Who wants to read another boring biography? Who wants to write one? Certainly not you!

Assignments:

Choose only 1 assignment: Due Monday 02/23/2009

1.   Biography paperWrite a two page essay (Minimum) on the African American that you picked and was approved by your teacher.

a.   The paper must include:

  • Typewritten (12pt font, Times New Roman or Ariel. Double spaced)
  •  An introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion.
  •  Answers to all the questions asked written into the essay.
  • A bibliography page
  • At least one book source from the library. (Public or school)

2.   Biography paper and Posterwrite a one-page essay (minimum) on the African American that you picked and that was approved by your teacher.

a.   The paper must include:

  • Typewritten (12pt font, Times New Roman or Ariel. Double spaced)
  • An introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion.
  • A bibliography page
  • At least one book source from the library. (Public or school)

b.   The Poster must include:

  • A picture of the person
  • A theme or focus that identifies the persons influence on society

3.   PowerPoint Biography and Presentationcreate a slide show that presents the African American that you picked out, and that was approved by your teacher, to the class.

a.   The presentation must include:

  • Answers to all questions asked written into the slideshow.
  • A picture of your person
  • Have a theme or focus that identifies the persons influence on society
  • 15 slide (minimum) with a cover slide
  • Bibliography slide
  • At least one book source from the library. (Public or school)

Steps to writing a biography:

  1. Select a person you are interested in
  2. Find out the basic facts of the person’s life. Start with the encyclopedia or a search engine online.
  3. Think about what else you would like to know about the person, and what parts of their life you want to write most about.

You must answer the following questions:

  1. What makes this person special or interesting? Explain
  2. What kind of effect did he or she have on the world or other people?.   
  3. What are the adjectives you would most use to describe the person? Why?
  4. What examples from their life illustrate those qualities? Give one example?
  5. What events shaped or changed this person’s life? Give at least one event?
  6. Did he or she overcome obstacles? Take risks? Get lucky? Explain
  7. Would the world be better or worse if this person hadn’t lived? How and why?

 

 

 

Do additional research at your library and on the Internet to find information that helps you answer these questions and tell an interesting story.
